Incomes of both, the small-scale traders and many labourers, have been hit hard in the last few days since the ban came into effect. While we can still think about setting-up alternate businesses, the daily wagers have no other source of income. What is the Govts plan to make sure income and livelihoods arent hit or as usual the Govt is clueless?
As usual the government would HV sn alternative and has setup a budget to handle the situation but nobody will be aware of it until the budget is entirely consumed don't ask how, and you bet it will be full audited too. more
When plastic was non existant and people were using paper, jute and other perishable material.Same thing in a better processed manner can be initiated by research and business group .Definately it will take some time but it will save humanity from plastic disaster.Because we failed on systemitic disposal of plastic and choked all water bodies including nullahs. more
In 2015 a study estimated that around eight million metric tons of our plastic waste enter the oceans from land each year. It is therefore a major problem caused by human beings from most points on the Earth. Discarded plastic is one of the major cause of flooding in Mumbai. The theory forwarded says, the plastic finds its way in the gutters, storm water drains and prevents the discharge of water to the sea. This then causes untold miseries to the Mumbaikars like me. Flooding is not new to India and it occurs when discharge, i.e. rainfall is more than the capacity to discharge. If you have 25 inch rainfall in 24 hours no city can discharge that quantity of water. Mumbai has two other problems 1) Outdated sewerage system 2) High tides of sea. When there is high tide, we cannot discharge the water and daily we have two high tides. There are two other man made problems - A) High population density. The houses covers the soil with concrete, which other wise would have absorbed lot of water. B) Marshy land, salt panes and mangroves. These act as buffers for rising high waters and we are eliminating them. Tokyo and Melbourne have constructed massive underground systems to protect themselves from flooding. https://edition.cnn.com/2012/10/31/world/asia/japan-flood-tunnel/index.html and http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-08-04/massive-tank-under-melbourne-park-to-protect-against-cbd-floods/7689276 more
Ban of plastic is a good decision. However, the Question here is what should be done by Govt to remit the loss of job and business due to the ban of plastic. Let us offer our comments on this issue. My suggestion is that all those daily wage workers who have lost the job due to ban of plastic, should be registered and engaged in Re-cycling industry by Govt initiative. Other suggestions are welcomed. more
