Lower Berth Quota Increase
One of the citizen asks that has been received from this circle and from other sources has been increase in quota of lower berths for Senior Citizen.
We are pleased to share with you that the same has been done. Now 100 lower berths (6 per sleeper coach and 3 per air conditioned coach) will be reserved in an average train for Senior Citizens, Women above 45 and Pregnant women travelling alone.
This is a 50 % increase in the quota of lower berths available from the 2015 quota and will be applicable effective April 1.

K.Ramaswamy - When I got my Vadodara-Mumbai by Vadodara Express on Wed 13/4/2016 and return by Rajdhani Exp from Mumbai-Vadodara on Friday 15/4/2016 on line, inspite of writing age as 79 and 78 mine and my wife's, I was allotted UPPER BERTHS. It was really very difficult for us to climb and travel from Vadodara to Mumbai. This needs to be looked into for those who book ON LINE to avoid standing in long Queues in the Station. Thanks more

good but not enough.railways knows percentage of senior citizens etc. travelling on an average on trains. quota should match such percentage. more

My experience is excellent. I booked online ticket (twice) Me and my wife both are senior citizen. I opted for one lower and one middle birth (thinking that both may not get lower birth and can sit together.) I got an alert message (something like this) from IRCTC "as per your option of birth you will get birth in different coach Do you want to continue" I opted NO. To my good luck, I got ticket for both lower birth in the same compartment that too facing each other. Excellent programming. more
