Lower Berths for Senior Citizens
We find the present berth allotment system very defective.Most of the Senior Citizens are not in a position to climb to middle/upper berths due to age related problems.In order to combat such problems and ensure lower berths to Senior Citizens it is suggested that similar to First ACC wher only the berth is confirmed at the time of reservation but allotment is done just prior to preparation of chart.If similar system is created for all other classes and only coach no. and berths are confirmed at the time of booking while final berth numbers are allotted just prior to final chart preparation,it will be possible to allot Lower Berths first to Senior Citizens,then to others.
Such a step will ensure that Senior Citizens are allotted Lower Berths giving them a great relief.Priority for remaining Lower berths can alo be set for Ladies in families and remaining to others.

i fully agree with this proposal. single mother traveling with child should be given preference if she needs. same with senior citizens. more

Of course prefer lower birth to Senior citizens or ladies with Children. But it does not meanas that first they should be alloted births. It all depends on Waiting list and RAC status. Of course seat allotment should be done in such way that lower birth be alloted to needy but it should be done on Fifo basis for the Confirmed status and then to RAC and then to W/L. If first allotment is done to Senior citizens then the concept of serial will be lost which also needs to be taken care. more

Udyan your fears are unfounded...the coach numbers will be alloted at the time of booking itself while the berth numbers get allotted atleat 2 hours prior to taravel and shall also be posted outside the coaches for those not tech savvy.. while the tech savvy can always get it through internet/sms more

Its a nice idea, but the cons are also there which needs to be thought through, since it brings in a lot of uncertainty for those who are booking their tickets. more
