Make Consumer Forums Consumer Friendly

Consumer Forums were set up to provide speedy justice to consumers. Ideally each complaint is supposed to be disposed off within 90 days of receipt of the notice by the opposite party when there is no requirement of testing of the sample etc. It is disappointing to note that barely 10% cases are decided within the mandated period of 90 days!

Applications of consumers are rejected for frivolous reasons. Some of the absurd reasons for refusal of filing complaints are ‘application not presented in a proper file’, ‘appropriate margin not provided in the complaint sheet’ or ‘the top half of the first page not left blank’. Even if it has already been typed and notarised, the whole thing has to be done afresh!

‘JUSTICE DELAYED IS JUSTICE DENIED- Medical Negligence’ - the pathetic functioning of Consumer Forums with reference to medical negligence. It was distressing to find that courts take 10 years or more to decide cases of medical negligence. In many cases, the victims of negligence have died before the judgment! Even if the verdict is in favour of the consumer, the compensation amount is so meagre that it makes a mockery of justice!

This is an appeal to Consumer Minister and others in GOI to safeguard interests of consumers by making Consumer Forums sensitive to the needs of consumers.

Sir, every one insist that Rule of law must prevail but when it comes to the door steps of such, then they try to flout. We need to ensure that Constitution Prevails and from the very same Constitutional Authorities themselves on wards. It cannot be Gymkhana club any longer. Black money, Money Laundering, Cross Border Terror business, Malnutrition, all can be Eradicated through Democratic means. There are some institutions in disguise, act as double agent against our nation and Humanity. Yes we need to Democratically awaken the world to leave a civilized world to our own dear children. It is possible. more
Yes something needs to be done in this regard. The whole judiciary system needs a revamp, which I think this Government is trying to do it. (Yesterday's newspaper carried a news that in Delhi Courts, on an experimental basis, sign boards are displayed showing the status of cases pending/decided by a Court.) Once implemented successfully, the same would be replicated in other courts. Performance of a Court also needs to be assessed and rewarded suitably for speedy (not shoddy) disposal of the cases. more
The original design is consumer friendly, but in due course it was destroyed due to lack of proper administration. Non filling up the vacant posts is the main draw back. more
The government itself is not sensitive towards the sufferings of the common man. Otherwise what makes it unable to ensure that all pending cases running in crores for decades are heard and decided further loss of time and all future cases are finalised and justice awarded within the prescribed time frame? Is it not a mockery to our big claims of being civilised people of a civilised nation since the ancient times? more
Corruption and set financial nexus between Political, Government AND, THE BUSINESSMEN is the root cause. more
