Make Indian Railways Better Circle

Dear Friends,

Upon requests from many of you, we are pleased to share that we are starting a new circle with the objective of making Indian Railways better.

It enables all citizens to bring up issues and ideas that will make Indian Railways efficient, cleaner, safer and better. Consolidated inputs from this circle will be submitted to the Railway Minister and Minister of State for Railways on a regular basis.

Based on how the circle develops, we may invite the two Ministers and their teams to join the circle as well.

Here is the invite link to join the circle:

Dear Rajendra Pratap Gupta, thank you for starting a separate Railway circle. Great! Very Good! Keep it up.! more
I have three inputs: 1. Improve railways safety with technology. Invest in tech that can validate train tracks, safety measures. 2. Keep multiple parallel by-lines: to allow goods trains to go on a track even when passenger trains are going. This is a shorter time economic alternative - dedicated parallel lines are the best. 3. Try to fan out our Railways to our neighbors, with their cooperation: Allow friendlier visa/travel policies and let people use our trains. This can further improve cooperation and investment in our railways. more
Railways is a lifeline of our country. I have a personal association of Railways and hence was recently exploring its performance. Details are available at: http://www.shapeupindia.org/visualization/statistical-summary-indian-railways In summary: 1) There is a huge gap between people willing to travel by Railways vs people actually travel. This is evident from the number of people who don't get a confirmed seat/birth and have to cancel their tickets. Imagine if we can make them travel as per their needs and help their cause, which ultimately helps the nations cause. So there has to be a serious focus on expansion and laying new tracks and starting new trains. 2) Operationally Railways are already saturated. Operating cost has been steadily climbing. It is an indicator of inefficient management and dwindling infrastructure. Current infrastructure needs to be upgraded and railway employees need more professional training. For most employees, Indian Railways ghane peene ka department hai. 3) Railways is an easy target for all anti national elements. Hence railways security needs to be strengthened. Railways police force is a reactionary force without its own intelligence. Has it ever been able to prevent any attack? 4) Railways can turn the growth pattern for our country. Railways research institute should be established, separate BTech courses should be setup for Railways engineering with focus on India. PPP model should be encouraged and 'Design to Develop to Deploy' time should be reduced. All railway coaches should be built in India. 5) Like a separate commercial arm of ISRO (Antrisk), separate export oriented commercial arm of Railways to be formed. Technology being developed in India should be exported for extra revenue. List can go on.... more
