Senior Citizens are not the Important Vote Bank for Modi Govt, hence Govt is least bothered about their plight. Non Pensioner Senior Citizens are the most vulnerable category. Govt must revise Interest Rates on SCSS and PMVVY. Seeing the Inflation and High cost of Medical and Hospitalization. more
Why not provide disability ramps to all compartments to transport invalids. more
Rich, who are also the most voluble netizens, have enjoyed subsidy on diesel, a fuel subsidised ostensibly in an era where logistics required transportation so the consumable get cheaply transported for over 2 decades, with manufacturers dieselising their production of cars, afforded by the rich, some high end luxury SUVs, then we must think about senior citizens too! SUV fun jaunts end up being paid for by the tax payer, especially when India imports 80% of her petroleum requirements. If one speaks on facts and data you will realise that the real resources concern lies elsewhere that would easily fund the railways, a green alternative. Sacrificing senior citizens concessions so that the those who can afford continue using their cars over long distance travel, would be highly polluting. For train travel by senior citizens could become unaffordable, with flying become more attractive option too. Trains would run half empty, a bigger loss! Sooner flights prices too seeing the new demand, could rise. Would that be the alternative everyone wants? more
Don't ask concession for Sr. Citizens. Ask other peoples to start petition to withdraw all facilities of All politicians in all sectors. It will be better. FREEBIES should be stopped. real needy will not write on Social media . more
I support Satyapal ji in giving senior citizens concessions. Not necessary, however, to make this a zero sum game. Whatever is given to politicians would be the Railways' prerogative, entirely, but concessions a must for those born before 60 years, before and more, who have contributed to the country, by way of taxes or even through their working years doing their bit as law abiding citizens. Can't add this with other miscellaneous concessions. Nobody would take joy rides by train, as in this case there is a 50% cost involved. Moreover this would be in line with sustainable development goals wherein the elderly take this environmentally friendly transportation option. Concessions are therefore a fiscal incentive too just like any other of the various incentives offered by the government for promoting equitable growth. more
