Making a City Safe

Making a city safer requires participation from State Govt, District Administration, City Police, Municipal Corporation, Power Corporation, citizens and several other stakeholders.

With this post we would like you to give inputs on all things that must be done by all or any of the above towards making a City Safe.

Our objective here is to evolve a Safe City model from this discussion which can become a reference point by all stakeholders.

We look forward to your inputs!

As long as people do not have the fear of being caught ,as long as the criminals do not have the fear of being punished,as long as the rich and wealthy dictate the judgements ,the situation is not going to improve....... Fear of being caught --Install CCTV cameras at all the major sensitive areas Fear of being punished--Once the crime is comfirmed, there should not be any delay in judgement..Kasab ,Afzal guru,Mallya,Lalit Modi ,Zakir Nair are few examples. No body can punish them Rich, wealthy and mighty--There should be special hearings for high profile cases involving rich so that they do not escape the punishment,Fodder scam,2 G scam etc...The culprits are still roaming freely and winning elections ... Its very easy in India...Somebody does a crime,he becomes a hero,Few more crimes and he becomes a politician...Once he becomes a member of team framing law,he ensures that there are loopholes in the law which can be easily exploited.. more
Safety and security of life and limb and property of people is a vast subject involving so many players requiring uniform enforcement of all related rules and laws strictly without fear or favor and at macro level too. Though, sometimes, the enforcement starts with a big bang, it dies down gradually with political interference or influence, making a mockery of the whole exercise. One such instance is that the police in many cities have started a good drive in holding up and fining many vehicles for having tinted glasses. But, in the end, it was found that the so called police frenzied bid was only directed at the law-abiding and innocent commoners who do not have any godfathers and all the shady characters who are even repeat offenders have escaped because of their political connections. Now, for whose safety the police have dramatized this exercise, please? How the police or any other enforcement agency can ensure safety of people by sparing the very same lot who are known to endanger the very same thing? more
If any government is sincerely interested in the safety and security of its people, then it should not spare any of its erring politicians that may play havoc with law and order enforcement. more
It's well known that at many places, the police are believed to be in cahoots with the local rowdy elements because of political nexus. All such police men that come to notice hobnobbing with any bad characters should be dismissed from service mercilessly, prosecuted to be convicted as a deterrent measure against others following suit. more
Make police autonomous. Let them not look up to their political masters for orders to do or not to do, instead, they should take their orders in every aspect of their functioning from their superiors only. If this is in place, automatically all other agencies fall in line and safety and security of the people is guaranteed. more
