making air travel safer for women

Zaira Waseem was allegedly molested on flight on saturday night with the guy behind her touching her in odd ways with his foot.

I am sure many women will identify with this where women travellers get touched in many ways in India when travelling by airplane, train or bus.

One solution could be a women zone in aircraft just like there is a bogie in mumbai locals or even in many trains the first compartment. Why not have a few rows reserved for women travelling without family/group and when booking ticket if gender is female they can assign that seat free of charge.

I am sure there are other solutions. more

It will again be a case of discrimination against women. Moreover, despite having separate rows of seats, will not the women use the common passages or they will need separate passages as well? The illustrated cases are isolated and takes place at times all over the glove but do the western women demand for such separate identified seats for them? Why not the woman folk gather courage to come down with heavy hands on such nuisance creators, which would certainly be followed by the co-passengers! However, as pointed out in the post, there may be several instances of physical touch with the passengers of opposite sex but I am sure most of these instances are unintentional and because of narrow passages and extremely narrow seats in the economy class of the air crafts. Even many of such instances occur because of the lady passengers' negligence but every time the male passengers are made scapegoats. more
Exactly correct and ground realities that every one to practice and follow at Self and Society Interest . more
Equality does not mean that ladies should be speared on their own. There MUST be some reasonable discrimination based on at-least the natural way. more
I like the post ,I'm not agree with you because one way all women said wants a equal rights then there is no meaning. If this way going on then ladies will lost the fighting power. Instead of asking separate ladies should start fighting. It would be a good leaning at this phase. Take a this recent case,if she would raised a alarm in flight it self it would been better instead of raising alarm afterward. So I don't think women should ask for it. more
This request for segregated seats is retrogressive. But to find a way out family sections described as couples with kids, single ladies ,old ladies ,ladies who need assistance may be thought of . more
There should not be a separate treatment for women. They are equal and let us catch the culprit and punish them severely. more
I agree with you that females facing such problems should fight and give it back to the molester right there and then. But come to think of it, like all males are not same, even all females are not same. There are female who are mentally not as tough. The aim of this separate sitting is to protect these poor females from SOME (I am saying some because most males aren't molesters, its only few perverts) pervert males. Is it alright to leave these poor females to mercy of these perverts? more
I'd like to request a poll by localcircles on this? more
This comment may not be liked by many. But please imagine how a passenger sitting on a seat behind you can.........even if he has stretched his leg to the armrest of the seat in front, rub with his foot the neck and the lback of the front passenger, unless that passenger has offered the opportunity. Those, who've travelled by air, please imagine the scenario and comment whether this is AT ALL possible for a passenger in the seat behind to ............... you know what I mean! Imagination is known to have taken flights....unthinkable! more
Yes it is possible. I had this stupid guy sitting behind with legs up my my seat which touched me. I pulled up that guy and he corrected himself. more
Yes please. Really human tendency retaliates those touch if repeated second time and is the general retort. more
