Making Bio Toilets Effective - Addl Inputs
We will soon be compiling the same and share with our leadership so these recommendations can be reviewed for action.
Making Bio Toilets Effective
1.There should be a ‘how to use’ printed on/near all bio toilets
2.Pictorial messages should be printed on the toilet doors prompting the passengers to keep the toilets clean
3.A maintenance team should be created who should clean these toilets on every 6 hours ideally at a major/junction station
4.Overnight and long duration trains should have a cleaner present in train to maintain the toilets
5. Availability of water through overhead tanks should be ensured in all bio toilets
6. A SMS number should be created to report blocked bio-toilets in trains
7. Deodorizers should be installed in the bio toilets to prevent them from smelling
8.All toilets should be fitted with exhaust fans so that the stinking smell could be reduced
9.A team should be created to look into any scams that could have happened in commissioning the bio toilets in trains
10.Dustbins should be placed inside and outside the toilets so that passengers have no reason to throw garbage inside the commode
11.The back side of the tickets can be used to educate passengers about bio toilet usage
12.Separate toilet coaches could be an alternative solution
13.The flushing system should be improved.
Bio Toilets in Trains - Issues
1. Many passengers are not aware about bio toilets
2. These toilets are mostly dirty and quite unclean
3. Some Bio toilets in trains like Rajdhani are already in a non-working state
4.Water is not available in bio toilets in many trains
5.Bio toilets in some trains are choked
6. In some trains bio toilets are only being cleaned once in the 24 hour long journey leading to terrible smell and unusability
7.These toilets create a very bad smell for the passengers sitting close to them
8. Some trains have a bio-toilet stickers claiming the toilet was fitted with the bio digestive system, but on peeping through you would find just the old fashioned 'Hole'
9.When flushed, the excreta comes up and the toilet becomes unusable
10. The cisterns of the bio toilets are often leaking. more
