Making Dustbins Effective - Inputs Needed

Dustibins are one of the most needed equipment across the country that needs to be installed and maintained by civic bodies/authorities.

Based on your experiences, please share what works and what doesn't work. What are the types of dustbins that should be installed in residential colonies versus public markets, at road sides versus public offices or at railway stations.

How can civic agencies ensure the dustbins are not stolen or broken and how can they be maintained effectively. What are the types of dustbins that encourage use.

Share your views. We will consolidate your inputs into a whitepaper and share with our leadership as well as broadcast to the 4000 Urban Local Bodies across the country.

We look forward to your participation!

Dust bins are must, but methods to recycle the waste at ward or taluka level is more important to resolve the problem forever. more
hey everybody , what i think is most of the garbage consist of plastic packaging material like , empty bottles , wrappers, etc , the big manufacturers like coke , uni lever , etc must create a system where the end customer is given some incentive to return the empty bottles etc back to company so that it can be recycled properly with maximum efficiency as same , govt should make compulsory , so that same system that creates garbage , recycles , it too , and cost of it should be incorporated in cost of product , hence saving environment too, i remember long time back there was scheme to collect empty wrappers and get goodies from shop keepers , i used to collect all my chips packets and keep them safe until i can redeem them , more
In residential colonies dustbins will not be effective because people will not take pain of walking to the dustbin and disposing there garbage. For colonies effective way will be picking from their houses by a three wheeler carraige. more
EVEN THE present dust bins are not emptied regularly. OVERFLOWING dust bins small and large on Indian streets is a common sight. First CREATE EMPTYING CIVIC VOLUNTEER BRIGADES more
It is OK providing awareness, but quite often the people who you are creating that awareness then complain about no bins. Bins need to be in place first and awareness given immediately after. Government offices need to have the bins first. What is the point in preaching unless the preacher isn't following his own rules. Most government offices, schools and hospitals do not have bins. In the towns and cities services are already there for sweeping rubbish that has been thrown into the streets, surely time would be better spent collecting the rubbish from bins out of of peoples homes and stores. It would be make more efficient of time spent releasing those same people into then working on trouble spots one by one to make the whole place beautiful more
