Making Internet Safe for Children: Inputs Sought

The various circles on LocalCircles have seen posts from members outlining the inappropriate content on social media apps like Bigo Live, Tik Tok, etc and their usage by young children and teenagers. In some cases, it has also been reported that adults are reaching out to chidlren vis these apps making them extreme risky. This is in addition to all the inapporpriate content, language, abuse, fake news, trolling and harassment that happens on Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp, etc.

In the context of making internet and social media safe for children, we would therefore like to seek your inputs on what are the risks you see for children and its magnitude.

Once that is done we will have a seperate discussion on way forward. Like you have seen in other causes, LocalCircles is committed to this cause and will do all possible to drive actions from regulators and law makers in this area.

We look forward to your inputs! more

Has any work happened in this area by the Govt? more
The technologies may not be able to help in this matter... The children can handle technology barriers much faster than their parents / elders can do..... To my mind, it is a social problem.... How do we bring up our children..... But it is an important subject.... more
The government should take strict and cognizable action against social media contents to prevent our children from abuse and becoming utterly spoilt by inappropriate content. The parents can disable bad apps from their children's phone but how can we prevent our children from sharing their friend's media content? Therefore the government should have a control on media just as it has on usage of our mobiles via aadhar card, etc. No child under the age of 18 can download these apps on their phones. Facebook, etc. should be warned about providing bad content on their platforms. Actually, all pornography and bad sites should be blanketed out by satellites from Indian media, more
In social media many contents are not good for children of less than 18 years. However, we may relax it for children above 12 years. more
To my mind, it is the duty/responsibility of parents to give knowledge and teachings to their children to decide that What is right and what is wrong for them. Everything is in open market but we select & choose only those things which are as per our discretion. I feel that first we must perform our own duties instead of finding excuses and blaming others. more
This the then custom culture in practice ignored by Govt, diluted by Parents AND NEED TO BE REINSTATED. more
