Swachh Bharat Mission

Making Municipalities Deliver for Swachh Bharat

1. The Nigam Parshad/Municipal Councilor should arrange meetings of citizens colony wise with the municipal workers and supervisor of that colony
2. An interface of Citizen and municipal workers should be developed and their phone numbers etc. should be shared with each other.
3. Local circles should be created for every colony and it must be mandatory for municipal councilor to join to understand top issues
4. Residents should be able to call their area worker directly in case they see unclean spaces in their colony
5. If the municipal workers don’t work properly/regularly, the citizens should report them to the Nigam Parshad’s office
6. There should be regular quarterly open meetings in every ward of each Municipality
7. RWAs should create small groups of residents who would keep an eye on the working of the municipal workers in their area turn wise
8. There should be a regular monitoring for the problems raised by the people, attended by the concerned supervisor within the time frame
9. In case residents notice municipal workers operating without proper equipment like masks, wheelbarrow etc., it should immediately be reported to the municipal officer
10. Bins should have phone numbers mentioned on them which could be contacted in case the bin overflows. more

Dear Friends dealing with municipality workers is not easy. Most of them they don't understand the meaning of masks. I would like to share a very interesting story with you. My mother was staying in Lucknow and very much concern about the cleanliness not only of house but the road in front of her house. She was totally against of giving bribe to any municipal cleaner to clean road. According to her he was getting his salary. She was suffering too much from the neighborhood because every morning she found a pile of garbage lying in front of our gate. Do u know who was throwing, the municipal cleaner. He stopped this activity when my mother agreed to pay him Rs. 50/- per month. This is India we have to think over carefully to make a plan for our locality. more
I am surprised to note that the basic work of Municipalities is providing cleanliness, providing good roads and lighting. I am not speaking of provision of drinking water as it is being charged separately. However, though cleaning is not considered as primary work, they spend money on parks commercial places, erection of statues but never bothered about air and water pollution except spending money on discussing the issues on pollution withjout initiating any act6ion on pollution. I am sure half of the sir pollution can be reduced in cities and other places by ensuring the proper roads and cleaning them without soil on them. more
Railway Station garbages can be classified into plastic, paper, etc and either it can be used by Railway itself to generate power required for the Junction or sold to local municipal authorities and rag pickers can be used to collecting the garbage in all railway junctions at a reasonable cost more
If Nagar Nigam / Municipal Corporation is existing, why there are dirty, stinking cities and towns? Why every town/city of Kerala is clean? How our neighboring countries like Singapore & Malyasia are neat and clean? more
