Making Unmanned Crossings Safer - Addl Inputs
1.Railway board should first enlist all unmanned Railway crossings as it exists to day - I am sure there will be a list.
2. Give the list to a Task force to study & recommend which are the crossings that could be made automatic with sensors based on the ground realities.
3 Those which can be automated should be taken up immediately so that accidents can be minimized.
4. Those which can be closed permanently should be focused next for their closure and construction of overhead road ASAP.
5.those not covered by 2&3 above should be given a detailed study to come out with possible solutions at minimum costs to the railways
6. All future projects like new lines / doubling of tracks should be undertaken with least number of such unmanned crossings right at the inception stages

Don't you think that mindset of people needs to change first. Rest all will be very easier to implement and a huge cost is saved. There are so many instance where there is man stationed at the manned crossings and still people cross the tracks. They need to be educated first that their life is important and a few minutes delay is justified. more
