Mandatory ac installation for truck driver

Once again media is going ra ra on announcement by Nitin Gadkari that he will make mandatory installation of AC in truck driver cabins. Everyone’s thinking wow great labour reform.

Except, installing ac doesnt mean running ac. The minister is clueless like he has been on both vehicle scrappage policy and motor vehicle act.

He doesnt know most drivers are not owners in India. Most owners wont approve higher fuel expenses for running an AC for driver because no customer will approve higher freight cost for the addtl fuel consumption.

The shopkeepers and godowns who these trucks are delivering to are mostly all sitting in the open with no AC.

So once again the only folks gadkari’s move will benefit is the automobile or truck AC supplier and installer. more

Move with no result more
However, mandatory for N2 and N3 category trucks only. Use RORO services such as Konkan Railways provides. Saves fuel expenses. https://www.dailypioneer.com/2023/business/air-conditioned-truck-cabin-must-from-october-2025.html more
will increase accident because careless driver may enjoy sleep during driving In India no concept of duty change after 8-10 hrs some times it looks Nitin ji is not aware about Ground reality and busy in industrial growth as the decesion of 15 yrs old vehicle running in road not allowed while some of common man never run their vehicle more then 50000km during life time and condition is good. more

As vehicles, Indian trucks are ramshackle and underpowered. They are mostly customised to suit the truck driver or owner - No conformance standards. Strandardisation needed. more
Optics is what matters, focus is immaterial, that seems to be the approach here. If the honorable minister can focus on ensuring that labour laws are uniformly applied to the truck drivers for the number of hours they are required to drive, payment is given as per what they have contracted for and they are not exploited by the truck owners/companies, that would be a great service to this group, their overall health and their families. more
