The mandis or in english fruit/vegetable markets in most of our cities are in dire dire shape and no one is doing anything to improve their state.
Orgs like fssai should create a structure for safe storage of fruits/veggies.
Vendors use dirty filthy water to clean them, they sit on open drains in some cases, artificial ripening chemical use rampant.
These things are entering all our kitchens and then we wonder why such increase in cases of cancer etc? more

It's important to suggest the local authorities to take corrective action in association of wholesale traders of the mandis. Responsibilty should not be fixed to any one else. Everyone concerned should have moral responsibilty to keep the place clean for own health. more

It is true that the fruits and vegetables available in Mandis are washed in dirty/ filthy water. This can be easily corrected by providing clean water supply to various points in a Mandi. Naturally this is going to create further filth in the Mandis. At the same time, we should also reconsider whether unclean vegetables and fruit should be brought to a Mandi in the first place? Why should fruits and vegetable snot washed in clean water before these are brought to the Mandi? more

Padam Ji you are quiet right - but this is saying like 'who shall bell the cat'. Who is going to provide clean water for the poor vendors ....they are not washing in dirty water for the sake of it ..they are doing so as they do not have the facility of clean water - would be great if the local residents get together and request their local officials to provide access to clean water and a place where the vendor can wash their vegetables ..... more

Fruit and vegetable mandies are really in bad shape. Lot of improvements are needed to put them in order. Who should do it ? is the question. Many organisations and individuals (like me) have studied and put forth concern for better F & V mandies. It is not clear why only FSSAI should be remembered for every problem (direct or indirect) relating to food raw material? more
