Mango Quality

We generally consume mangoes from february till october. Kids love them and so do we. Ever since I have joined this circle, i am a little unsure about having them pre season because of carbide risk.

Right now south delhi has pairi and safeda mangoes selling in plenty. Are these in season and safe to consume. Some experts in circle are saying dont have mangoes before april but dont some of these come early (without carbide ripening). FSSAI and expert answer would help. more

NATURAL GROWTH IS ALWAYS PREFERRED. WE SHOULD NOT GIVEN ANY SCOPE FOR ARTIFICIAL GROWTH, ARTIFICIAL CHARACTER, ARTIFICIAL BEHAVIOR NEVER NEVER ATTRACT. SAME IS APPLICABLE EVEN IF GROWTH FOR FRUITS. more
It will be prudent to purchase raw mangoes and ripen them at home with the age old method of keeping these covered with dry grass and/or gunny bags and allow them to ripen naturally. These method is in use in India for ages. more
I wish some expert to answer Shikha's query. more
Dear Shiksha, Mangoes are naturally ripened or artifically, it all depends on the source. If you are near the source, where Mangoes are cultivated, you have higher chances of getting naturally ripened Mangoes. If you are far away, chances are very remote. It is all to reduce the loss of product during transportation, as it takes days from collecting mangoes from the orchards to the final consumer. To avoid loss, mangoes are plucked hard, packed in boxes with soft padding material. Then it is transported to various destinations, where it is stored and ripened in presence of Carbide before distributing/ selling it to retailers. Hope you can understand whole logic behind artificial ripening of fruits. more
