https://www.facebook.com/reel/1432595704314805 more

It is the season of voting once again. One might want to think that this is a carnival of democracy. But, alas, it is not what really voting does have to do with democracy has the force of democracy been reduced to a mere act of voting? Democracy is supposed to be about the power of people. But what kind of power is this the people do not have the power to enact legislation, to suggest politicians, to make sure that the elected representatives do something for the benefit of the larger society. Ordinary people cannot even access the institutions that stand for democracy such as the state assembly and Parliament we do not have the power to stop the latent missuse of government wealth as well as public institute for the personal benefit of politicians and their family may members so what power do people really have through this act of voting. Voting today is seen as a transaction by the majority of voters the well to do class believes that the poor sections benefit from mentally or otherwise from voting. more

Manifestos have less relevance as one may not agree with every item in it. Ultimately, the candidate is to be chosen based on the local issues. Some choose candiates based on their loyalties or inducement received. The manifesto will have high-pitched promises but it can also indicate the direction that a political dispensation make take. In India none of it is guarantee of fulfilment. Parties need to focus on broader issues of development and getting malaises out of the system. more
