Marijuana or Bhaang

Marijuana or Bhaang shops are official in many states of India and run by state government (attached pic from Raipur). Question is - what is FSSAI position on this. We all know the consumption takes place on holi in north india but due to these shops many people in north india consume marijuana regularly. If fssai bans it and calls it illegal, the menace will stop. more

Consumption bhang is not an illegal act though its selling without proper authority and licence is illegal. Similar is the case in respect of ganja (hemp). FSSAI is to look after the quality of a product. Is it authorised to ban any product ? Moreover, consumption of these products is very very limited and do not have any adverse affect on the society directly. What we need first is to have a complete ban all over the country over production, selling and consumption of alcoholic liquors, which destroy families apart from influencing the drunkards to engage in immoral and unsocial activities. more
100% true. Even in Mumbai in many places Bhang is sold in shops as Bhank ki goli and due to low cost it has its own share of addicts.Anythings which ends up as tx or payments to government or its officials is easily permitted or turned a blind eye. more
Those saying Banning is not the answer please read and upvote. The only reason an addictive substance is banned is because you can make another person addicted to it. In my school in Bombay a shopkeeper was selling drug laced sweets to rich kids. After they got addicted he made them either spend entire pocket money or rob from home. Obviously some got caught and they had to go to hospital. Yes these drug dealers are well connected when the narcotics departed raided the shop he got information before hand and cleaned up the shop. The place where he used to keep the drugs was searched and trace amounts were found. This is how he was arrested and so many young kids lives were saved. If there was no ban on drugs they would have not caught him. He would have claimed I don't know how it came here. But since its banned there is no way it can fly into his house. Now you know why it should be banned. In Surat city tea shops and Panshops put opium based drugs into the tea. A Lassi shop was caught and he has so many contacts and got out in a few years. But imagine if this drug was not banned there would be no way to stop them. This is the only reason a drug an addictive drug should be banned. Because drug dealers can make you addicted without your knowledge and then they make money. It is not about freedom. It is irony to ask freedom to consume drugs. It is nothing but asking freedom to become a slave of addiction. more
Your report should be an eye-opener not only to parents, teachers but to the society as a whole. more
Do you think it is officially permitted according to the existing law? Governments are closing the eyes in the name of Holi and it is a handle for people to perpetuate the usage of this prohibited habit forming substance in India. Show many in writing where it is permitted. Already it is rampantly being cultivated in hilly tract by naxalite groups and being smuggled thus raising money for their activities. more
You have raised a valid issue, particularly of late there is some advocacy of making it legal. Even in Mumbai I am told it is freely available. I do not know if it is illegal why we do not find any law enforcement. Sometimes, I suspect even Rahul Gandhi takes a dose before his speech. He becomes incoherent. Observe him carefully. Other day somebody asked him about his Kailash yatra and his response was typical. He stared blankly at the journalist and on prompting bumbled a reply which was not a reply. more
