Maternity Bill Survey

I am glad to see the survey of localcircles about maternity bill published here on US sites.

As a US based Indian entrepreneur, clearly see challenges in the bill. If enforced, it will hurt women employment and if not enforced the law will just be a bill with no success.

And I also think that even large companies HR will get trained to think twice before hiring women in age groups of 25-35.

India needs maternity law which is like unpaid leave for 3 months with guaranteed employment when you come back. And flexibility to work from home during pregnancy and post the 3 month leave period for another 3 months.

Govt should reconsider what they are doing. more

On the lighter it will promote family planning !! Mostly the jobs seem to be related to IT & start-ups related to the electronic industry. Maybe the women can work from home. more
This bill is definitely soul dampener. The result is going to be more lax by people due to liberty to progen and is most likely to be misused by many. The suggestion of 3m unpaid leave with guarantee of not loosing any service benefits if the person would have continued in service is an excellent one to keep people motivated & on their toes. more
Along with the maternity bill, the government should also have focussed on the number of children due to the exploding population. It seems to me that the government is simply helping produce more children. The facility should have been given only for say 1st or maximum 2nd child / children. The facility should have been reduced drastically for the (say) 3rd and onwards children! more
This bill definitely hurt the employment potential of females, more
We cannot mix charity and business together. Let the business manage things professionally selecting resources as required to run the business profitably. It will be difficult to run any business by anybody under regulations such as take certain percentage under the reserve category and provide various such and such facilities and further, provide provisions under such and such rules. Rather Govt should ensure that the business is run using resources productively, not polluting water, air and soil in any manner and that the business produces products or services that are useful to the people. A private business will certainly find it difficult to employ women employees and paying 6 months salary on leave. Thanks more
