Maximum Governance Minimum Government-Laudable concept by Sri Narendra Modi

I am rather peeved, perplexed and also worried as to why Government should be in the business of running Hotels, Media (Doordarshan) Manufacturing Watches? Telecom services (BSNL & MTNL) and similar fields.

We must work out a disinvestment plan and shelve all these areas. There is already a lot of competition in the above fields and it is difficult for any Government Organisation with archaic practices to perform well.

Take the case of BSNL-MTNL, the officials draw salary from Government but many of them work for private companies. I can produce lot of evidence. Infact some senior officials also admit this but they take shelter under the argument that there would be `Black sheep' everywhere?

One also fails to understand the idea of having such organisations that can never be sustained. more

Air India/Indian Airlines are mainly for those who fly free of cost like the politicians and their kith and kin, Bureaucrats and their kith and kin, some sportsmen and their family, for LTC employees etc. Nearly 50% of the passengers in any of these Airlines will be travelling free. more
Dear Mr. Somasekhar, You are 100% correct. The govenment should not be in the business of running any business. Look at sorry state of Air-India/Indian Airlines. The only time Air-India was not only profitable but reliable as well was when Tata was running it. Same for Indian Railways. The Government of India should completely get out of running any business. The Government's job is policy making and Good Governance. Kamal Agnihotri more
Though I agree, GIVE SUFFICIENT TIME TO NEW P.M. & TEAM! DO NOT EXPECT MIRACLES SO QUICKLY. UPA HAS ALMOST CORRUPTED & DESTROYED ALL SYSTEMS! THERE IS NO MAGIC WAND TO REVERSE ALL SO SOON! HAVE PATIENCE & SUPPORT NEW GOVT! more
Yes. Government should confine itself to Governance. Our First government divided industries into three parts- such as (a) For Government to run based oN Safety & security, and General Welfare (b) for both government and also Private Sector and (c) only for Private sector only. It will be better if we follow this norm and decide where, governmant should and shouldnot enter business.
