Medical prescriptions

Its a common experience to buy medicines far more exceeding the prescribed number , if they are in odd numbers. For instance if the doctor has prescribed 5 tablets , the consumers are forced to buy the entire strip of 10 tablets , no matter how expensive these medicines are. This is sheer exploitation. Elsewhere , especially in developed countries, the consumer can buy the exact number of medicine. Why this disparity ? more

Druggists/Chemists are permitted to sell only the prescribed quantities. Apart from the financial ablation of the purchaser, it causes increased damage to the environment. Unused drugs are usually thrown in the garbage by the purchaser. Such drugs eventually finds their way into water bodies, soil etc. and adds to the immunities and/or causes mutation of various bacterias/viruses, etc. This makes them antibiotic or other dug resistant. Thus, such Druggists/Chemists , for their financial gains, are not simply extorting money from the purchasers, but are causing irreparable degradation to the environment - not only national but global (since all such materials ultimately ends up in the oceans and virus/ bacteria, etc. have also become globe trotters with human carriers). more
Irrespective of what the governing acts say, it is a fact that the customer has to purchase entire strip from the retailer. The situation is even worse in many, if not all private hospitals, where irrespective of the quantity actually used, you will get charged for a strip or multiples of the retail limit. more
Mr Prabhu, The Drugs Act does not permit any seller to force the buyer to purchase more than the required quantity. more
Points raised are absolutely correct these are not liquid but tablets so not at all no excuse can be justified ; individual tab print r made available now a days of much more miniature type may be these are one of these reasons such that no excuse would be there to show difficulties / such like causes -now one can examine that strip containing 1 tablet contain complete detail print can be possible in small strip of individual tablet .A lot regulations / rues are there to prevent bad practices ; very rare common people might have been successful to know such inspectors (in the name of insufficient staff or so (no job record of daily visit with their verified signatures may not be available as proof of their visits -to meet everybody's need of desire /hankering may be the causes of wrong /improper implementation may be the causes ; Art of implementing rules through responsible investigating inspectors , team of such with no prior intimation with practicable nos. must be obtained from Britain /other countries who are openly known committed to their countries :these can change a lot .IF 100 RULES ARE THERE 500 RULE BREAKING KNOWLEDGE/ways would be available in corrupt country/countries . Art of implementation of rules must be given top priority/priorities . more
The Medicine stores should not object to sell the exact number of tablets from the stripe. more
Right! more
My experience is different. The shop keeper never forces me to purchase medicines in addition of the numbers prescribed excepting in those case where the difference is of one or two tablets. Better you try at other shops and you will certainly get as per the requirements of the prescriptions. Remember, as per law, medicines should be sold against prescriptions only. If you want a favour otherwise, you are also expected to agree with his terms in lieu thereof. more
Your experience is rear in Indian context. more
