The adverse impact of drug usage on a whole generation of young India has not been perceived by many .It looks like a distant happening in a far off land .Once you see them closely you will not be the same again.This is a very important alert for new India. Drug usage can lead to crime,psychiatric disturbances,addictions,HIV, Hepatitis -B,sexual offences,loss of careers,accidents,law and order problems.To bring them back costs you whole lot of time ,money ,hospitals, experts who are in short supply. The drug peddling industry is financing terrorism,illicit weapons,subversionists and also poses a security threat to nation. That why countries facing them are losing sleep over it as they have failed controlling them. China,Indonesia,Columbia have stricter laws but a democratic country like ours have a long way to go . Drug enforcement dept is weak,law is lax,quick judgements are not forthcoming.Above all corruption in all departments which oversees their prevention is disappointing.urgent needs are 1-Prevention of natural drug cultivation area by surveillance cannabis, poppy etc ( forest dept,police dept,commercial tax,agricultural departments) by land ,vehicles ,foot patrol,air surveillance ,drone cameras. 2- prevention of drug labs working under cover.amphetamine, LSD ,Mandrax,codeine,diazepam, 3-Info from drug inspectors is very helpful.They can be rewarded suitably. 4-Info from educational institutions by intelligence about supply, peddlers ,places . 5-info from shady places ,pubs,night clubs,five star hotels,prostitution dens. 6-NGOs committed to prevention of drug abuse should act voluntarily and help the authorities. 7- All dist ,state borders need check posts with sniffer dogs 8- National borders like deserts ,jungles,hills needs special teams with aerial support and armed interventional support system. Handling the victims 1- identify,collect data,isolate book them to deaddiction centers with the help of state govt . parents need not give consent as in psychiatric cAses producing public nuisance. 2- Establishment of specific drug addiction centers. With funding from central government ,staff ,doctors , social workers rehabilitation specialists all paid by center .National ID. And flow up with biometric I D. Handling operations A separate department of drug enforcement with judiciary with summary powers by center They can coordinate with state or act independently to do ops. The will to view it as a national problem is needed. Example of Pumjab, Goa ,Pushkar,Nepal should not be followed as the govts have escalated these now facing a genie in their hands! more
