Menace of Drugs - Root Causes
1.The drug sellers have a nexus with the state police officers
2.Police knows about the presence of many drug rings but they just overlook their existence
3.Drug laws are not strictly implemented in India
4.Smugglers are able to find loop holes in border security to smuggle drugs
5.There is a policy about showing smoking in movies but nothing about drugs
6. Younger generation thinks using party drugs is a sign of being hip and modern
7.Drugs cost a lot of money and once a person gets used to it, they will even commit a crime to get money to buy them
8.The drug trade is also evolving and newer variants keep entering the markets
9.There is no authority to keep a watch on poppy and cannabis cultivation on remote hilly areas
10.Students are susceptible and fall prey to peer pressure
11.Laws against drug trafficking, selling, buying and using are not strictly implemented
12.There is a lack of serious punishments such as confiscation of drug dealers/agents assets, capital punishment for having drugs etc.
13.There is no serious crack down on police and security personnel actively helping and benefiting from drug smuggling activities
14.Production of poppy or other drugs is highly profitable business
15.Unfortunately some political leaders take part in these businesses for amassing wealth for electioneering and control of power
16.Drugs are moved easily across international borders due to corruption and involvement of high level leaders and politicians
17.Police intelligence is either weak and is unable collect information to check this trade
18.Citizens are not roped in to report unusual activity about drug consumption or sale because no one really cares.
