MINERAL WATER RATES - COURT BACKS HOTELS :

There have been several complaints from the circle members about charging over the M.R.P. by the Hotels & Restaurants . So the Legal Metrology Dept . had imposed fines as high as Rs. 25,000. When the case went to the Supreme Court , the bench refused to accept the plea from the government .

The bench observed that Hotels and Restaurants are nor bound by Legal Metrology act and could not be punished for charging over M.R.P.
As the ambiance provided by these establishments need to be accommodated .

Post this Judgement the T.N. Actors Association
[Nadigar Sangam ] allows the customers to carry their own water to the cinemas.

When Government itself couldn't do anything , WHAT BEST WE CAN DO IS TO PAY THE AMOUNT DEMANDED OR CARRY OUR OWN WATER. more

This is not the first instance that the courts rejected the government's plea to uphold their decision taken within the ambit of their own laws because of its inability to enact laws thoroughly leaving no loopholes to take undue advantage by the opportunists showing utter disregards to laws. This is done either due to lack of prudence of the concerns responsible to draft the laws or with evil design of misusing thereof by certain groups of people at opportune times. The courts are bound to decide a case on consideration of the related laws in entirety. In the instant case the government should bring in suitable amendments to the MRP Laws plugging all the loopholes on the basis of the observations of the Supreme Court made in its orders, so that no court of the country can quash any mandate of the government in future. more
I carry my own water because of a stomach ailment everywhere but find it so inconvenient. But if water is taxed then air will be taxed soon by the new government. Nothing in this country works or will ever work. Surely a five star hotel who charges so much for items can give boiled and filtered water to its customers. Again another shame. I hope the Supreme court judges get a stomach ailment have to dish out Rs.100/- per bottle, I would love to see their faces and the pinch in their pockets! more
Why the govt can't provide the tap water which is in its best filtered form like US/UK/Singapore .The govt can talk of Hyperloop /Bullet trains Digital India but not of filtered water ..what a shame !!! more
So what's the need to write M.R.P on the bottles more
Apart from Hotels there are ample other places the water is essential BUT either illegally sold substandard material & /or with whooping price. NO ACTION, NO CONTROL more
