Mis-use of ticket booking
On most occasions, berths are not available , but at the last moment, tickets are available due to block cancellation. The Railway must introduce few steps to check the mis-use of block booking and cancellation.
1. Block booking by family should be allowed subject to the condition that all the passenger should be bearing the same surname. All the major (above 18 or 21 years of age) ticket holder should carry photo ID card and the same need to be produced for verification on demand by designated railway official.
2. Block booking of tickets with different names (not family) should not be allowed. In case of company, block booking be allowed on the condition that reservation form is accompanied by authorised letter.
3. Cancellation charges should be increased manifold especially in case of block cancellation having different passengers (including the company).
4. Passenger caught travelling on forged name should be penalised which 10 times the fare and should be disembarked immediately.
Last but not the least, find out the reason why passengers are forced to travel on forged name ?
One simple reason could be non-availability of ticket.
Try to add additional coaches to accomodate extra passenger, so that every passenger's journey is ensured and they are not forced to play at the hand s of agent. more

With Reference to the above post , Mr.Paul missed the finer line of point 1 which also states that all adult member should carry photo ID card . In one of my post I mentioned that TTE should be provided with TABLETS for online verification of ID in some special case (just as it is done in bank transaction exceeding cash transaction for Rs50,000). Proper linkage has to made available to TT. more

I take strong objection to usage of words by Mr.Subhajit . This is no political arena to settle a score. There could be differences in thought, opinion but using demeaning language depicts biased towards ignorance. Even at times, I have expressed by differences on Make Railways better in a very sensible manner. Mr.Siddharth is not in agreement with my view point and I welcome his post in stride. more

Point 1 can not be applied because there are cases in South india where people in the same family have different last names. They follow initials with their parent's names. more

This is ridiculous!! In a family, if wife does not use her husband's surname and their children decide not to use any surname, then?? Won't they be allowed to travel together? This is not an imaginative sequence, I know a family with like situation. more
