Mishandling of flight cancellation by Spicejet !!

I and my partner went on a vacation to Goa last month and we booked our flights through Spicejet never thinking what kind of problems we will land up in. Our onward was fine but our return which was on 18th April at 4:20 pm turned out to be a disaster. On 17th April at 1:30 pm I got a call from a lady at Spicejet that our flight has been cancelled due to the runway closure. We were shocked to hear this and we were also surprised to know that there were no other flights out of Goa on 18th and there was only one flight on 19th April at 12:20 pm with only two seats left. Boy, we were so upset and angry and with no other option we agreed to take the 19th flight but we asked the Spicejet lady to arrange the extra night stay for us but she point blank refused and said either we take it or leave it. She did not bother how we would stay one more night nor how would we return to Delhi so we had to accept the two seats and we had to spend one more night and spend for food from our pockets for no fault of ours. Not only we had to go through such an ordeal but the 19th flight had no food except peanuts and tea/coffee and even water we had to ask five times before the hostess gave it reluctantly. Spicejet is the most horrible airlines I have ever travelled. Is there any hope of recovering the amount of Rs.12,000/- we have spent for the extra night? We had also approached the travel insurance company for cancellation of flight but they refused to pay saying if we had cancelled the flight due to health issues will they refund the expenses. Can someone please guide me as to how to proceed? more

I have done it recently so like to share the details You need to locate the nearest consumer court and prepare 3 copies of below 1. Written complaint- the format of complaint is available online however its simple document with details about your issue, details of company against which you are making complaint, your prayer etc. 2. An affidavit -again its format is available online-Its acceptance that all facts that you present are correct. 3. Your address and ID proof-voter ID is sufficient. 4. 100rs Postal stamp. 5. Photocopy of documents to substantiate your complaint like in your case- Air tickets and hotel bills In case you still face difficulty please let me know more
