Tactful exploitation by Aircel
Aircel offers one-day internet @ Rs.9/- with a limit of 50 MB per day. On consuming the full usage quota, the Aircel instead of disconnecting the net or sending an alert message that the “usage has been consumed fully” tactfully continue the net and charge at 2g rates for the extra usage which is exorbitant. The offer is @ Rs.9 for 50 MB but continuing it in 2g the charges for the same 50 MB is Rs.550. They call it a special concession. Neither it is sold as scratch card nor is it available at top-up Centre. The trick is it can only be activated through their app or online, only when sufficient fund is available for deduction. Consumers unwittingly continue beyond the quota, as there is neither warning nor stoppage. The consumers haplessly fall in to the trap and end up losing disproportionate amount. This is how they hook gullible subscribers with bait like Rs.9 per day internet make unfair fortune.
I am one who faced the exploitation when I opted for Rs.9 per day but ended up losing extra Rs.55/- debited for about 5 MB additional usage, which was just 10% of the quota of 50 MB subscribed for Rs.9/-. Lakhs of subscribers may have been exploited.

In the case of voice calls, they automatically cut the connection if the balance is Nil. Will they allow the net to continue if the balance at credit reduces to zero? Why they are not following the same procedure to stop internet when Rs.9 permitted quota is consumed? At least an alert call or message that the ‘quota is over and if internet is continued it will be charged’ should be sent by the Aircel. Is this not an UNFAIR TRADE PRACTICE and exploitation of innocent consumers?
I sent an Email on the subject to the Telephone Regulatory Authority of India but no action seems to have been taken to stop this exploitation.
I am therefore appealing to your goodself.
