Modi should worry about the country & not about 2019 elections

The defeat of the BJP candidates in the by elections in UP and Bihar should have certainly rattled the BJP leadership. I only hope that Mr. Modi would not change his policies and priorities in the wake of the by election results.

Mr. Modi should realize that the expectations of the poor and downtrodden people who form the large share of the vote bank is that he should root out corruption from one end to other and ensure that they get relief from the corrupt people in the government machinery and in other areas like educational institutions, hospitals etc.

No doubt, Mr. Modi has taken several long term steps to combat corruption like GST, anti benami law etc. These are all long term measures which poor people do not understand and the media and opposition parties misguide the common man.

The poor people want to see the corrupt people punished just like pesticides kill the pests in the farms. This should happen not only at top level of the administration but also at the lower level, so that they will feel the positive impact.

They feel that corrupt policeman or doctors and others in the hospitals, the educational institutions, civil supplies departments etc. are harassing them and making their life miserable. Many posts in the government are now for sale and poor people feel frustrated.

Since BJP is in power in several states, it should be possible for Mr. Modi to take stringent measures not only to eliminate corruption and punish corrupt people but it should also appear to happen in the eyes of the common man. If Modi would make the people in the lower income group realize that corruption is being fought and they get relief from the corrupt people , he will win the 2019 elections hands down.

Many people wonder why Chairman & Directors of Punjab National Bank still have not been suspended ,pending enquiry and they hold Mr. Modi responsible for this. Mr. Modi should fight against such impression.

Here is my observation on Why did Modi Government failed miserably within such a short time despite lot of publicity of their efforts. The results of UP and Bihar are eye opener for Modi and company. The pitch was same players were same yet they lost the game. What happened? Yogiji’s analysis is they lost due to Mayavati - Akhilesh alliance. I wonder how can a seasoned politician like Modiji failed to forecast that this can happen as it was the only option left for the opposition to fight his might. Admittedly this is not the correct analysis. What then is responsible? I listened to responses of commoners in the area on TV. Many said it was due to failure of Demonetization and GST implementation. Some said the decisions affected common man badly while the real offenders or black money holders escaped without being hurt. The Demonetization logic of thwarting stone pelting, terror attacks and Naxalite activities proved illogical and unfruitful. GST created lot of hassles for illiterate or semi-literate merchants who do not know how to work with computers. They have to seek help from service providers of course at an additional high cost. GST has led most merchants issuing kachcha bills to customers as a general rule thereby making him more vulnerable to consumer issues. Government failed to bring back black money from foreign countries, on the contrary could not prevent financial culprits absconding the country. They are enjoying their life in countries which Modiji claimed to be close friends to him. Government has yet to prove its effectiveness on bank NPAs. No relief to middle class in any of their financial plans including taxation must have caused aversion among salaried tax payers and senior citizens. The excesses of police though aimed against seemingly criminals, created fear among a downtrodden class in general. Some direct attacks on Muslim Junta such as Haj Subsidy and Triple Talak would definitely have turned pro-Modi talkers among them hostile. Minorities are historically said to take side of party in power but this Government is still viewed as adversary. Making Acts and rules will work only when implemented effectively. Here no law proved effective due to the fact that its provisions were used by implementing authorities as mere tool to enhance their bribe demands. Instead of framing new laws or amending existing ones, Government should have concentrated on implementation penalizing corrupt practices at lower and middle levels that directly interact with common man. Someone said rightly that bribe amount has shot up from 500 to 5000 under this government. Let us admit the fact. As of now all real estate transactions continue to have same component of black money in cash as it used to be before. Where, then is this cash coming from because the banks do not pay cash of more than 2 lakhs to commoner today without lot of harassment. This gap is putting common man against, because he is the sufferer and fails to fulfil his genuine dreams despite tall claims by the Government. Simple day to day hassles to common man like parking problem can drive him antagonist. No one has seen any politician or rich being penalized for traffic violation. One can escape scot free even after killing school children. But if a common man has parked his vehicle on the side of road while going to a bank for just a passbook entry his vehicle will be toed in less than a minute or two although he was compelled to do due to so many vehicles of bank staff were blocking his parking space with impunity. The onus of proving effective is on Government but the Government has failed to come up to the expectation of common man and all their decisions appeared to be pro rich. Modi enthusiasts may shout that he does not have a magic wand that the wrongs would be undone immediately; but four years out of your five years is not a shorter period. Constitution has provided you that much term only. You should have shown pro-people result in at least one area to prove your genuine concern and ability to perform. As opposition rightly says, ‘sirf jumalebaji se kaam nahi hota.’ People also get annoyed with such overly done irrelevant slogan shouting most of the time from the mouth of top leader. Ground reality must be appreciated by this Government. Modiji talks big of rajdharma but does he ever undertake clandestine surveys of praja to assess the impact of his actions on the common man - the real voter? The IT driven chat rooms won’t give him the appreciation of ground reality, while the RSS brigade culturally being compliance oriented will hardly tell him the real scenario. Before the 2019 acid test, Modiji needs to take concrete actions immediately. Finally, a curt note. Was Yogi’s popularity growing to the extent of overshadowing someone’s image? We have witnessed some top brass leaders elsewhere cut to size the same way before. This then is another story for a political observer. more
Basically, it appears a recognised fact that the path the current central government is treading is good for our country. Yet, lacklustre voting in any election, like it happened in Uttar Pradesh, is a reflection of public sentiment/thinking of the governmental policies. Question: Are the reforms initiated by the central government to support farmers/the poor in the country not recognised by them? Human nature is really "unfathomable"! I get so much, I want more.........I get that much, I want more than that.....!!! more
Welfare of poor people should be on top priority for Modi govt.BJP organisation should work hard to be in contact with common people and know their problems and solve them. more
Mr. Venkataraman is making the right point, but one also needs to realize that it is imperative for a political party to win elections in order to continue with the policies set in place by the current government. PM Modiji has taken very tough and path breaking decisions with the clear intent to serve the poor and bring the downtrodden into the country's mainstream and some of these decisions had to come with an electoral price. In my opinion there should be a serious introspection of the Rajasthan and Haryana governments wherein the ruling CMs are not governing in accordance with the expectations of the common citizens. MP also needs to take stock of certain unpleasant situations which is brewing there before the elections. But yes the UP by-polls, Yogi Adityananth and his deputy CM have to take full responsibility for the losses since they have grossly ignored their constituencies and the people have not reposed their confidence in these leaders due to complete lack of governance there. This is a very serious wake-up call for the BJP and it's central and state leadership needs to analyze the situation and take immediate corrective measures. The second major attribute for this loss could be apportioned to the last minute alliance of the SP-BSP just formed with the sole objective of taking on PM Modi and BJP in their own bastions and this should taken very seriously be the BJP lest it becomes an nationwide phenomenon for them. PM Modiji, Amit Shahji and their team need to cautiously guard this evolving situation and create a nation-wide awareness programme of the good things done under the current regime. more
Totally agreed with Mr Venkataraman, by poll result should not be compared with the mandate of the people of India i.e. 130 crore people. So Mr Modi should continue with the long term policies, which will be in the long term benefit of large people at all who have elected and impose faith in Mr Modi. Though necessary to introspect for the reasons to defeat as in both the state there are government of ruling party and the poll was supposed to be in favour. However it not indicative of election 2019 should not be a reason for change in policy decisions having long term effect. more
