Money should be refunded without TDR if Railway cancels train.
1. My train was cancelled causing me great inconvenience, Interestingly a newspaper had announced it 2 weeks ago but Railways website showed all ok till the day of travel. I got no refund because , they argued, I filed TDR, 72 hrs after the departure of train. First, why should there be a need for TDR when train is cancelled by Railways? Second, when train didn't leave at all, why the limit of 72 hrs? If Railway cancels, money should be automatically refunded. more
Yes, there is no need to file TDR if train is cancelled. Further if wait listed tickets could not be confirmed, full amount of tickets should be refunded but Rly. used to deduct minimum cancellation charges as per their norms from the customer, this should be stopped. Railway should review their cancellation/refund policy. Cancellation/refund is now one of the major source of income for railway. As the Railway is for/by/of the citizens of India, all policies should be in favor of Indian citizens. more
Agreed, money should be refunded with TDR if train is cancelled. Also, if a higher class is removed and reservation transferred to a lower class, difference amount should be refunded without TDR. more
It looks like all depts have targets, and they are not particular about how they meet them! Your case sets a particularly bad example. If Govt cannot abide by the highest standards of probity, why expect the same of each citizen/taxpayer!!?? more
If railway cancels the train . it must immediately return the money without the passengers being further subjected to unnecessary harassment of filing thousands of TDR by all of them. One single instruction from authorised railway official that 'xyz train was cancelled and hence refund be initiated to all passengers and confirmed to the undersigned' to irctc should suffice. more
My fate was much worse. I was travelling in 1stAC in Rajdhani Exp. Train was cancelled mid-way, and at 12:30am - about mid-night, I was told to get out because the train was being taken to the yard. There was no alternate travel arrangement. No accommodation at the station. Just - "Get out of here...." at mid-night. I had to take a taxi and pay Rs.7,000/- to travel rest of the way... about 300 km. This was the fate of a 1stAC passenger in Rajdhani Exp.??? I had purchased the ticket online through IRCTC. No refund.! Not even a "Sorry for the inconvenience..." - which would just have been a formality anyway. What can we expect from the IR and IRCTC? -v.k.sharma . more
