More Power to Us

It is indeed superb to hear about MRPs becoming mandatory so quickly on medical devices. This is great work by members in circle and localcircles after the one victory last year when we opposed freebasics and govt took note.

But I think NPPA will need support of Consumer Affairs Department to ensure enforcement of MRP on ground in the hospitals. more

What rules have been amended in this case? more
MRP does not guarantee proper pricing. A pricing mechanism has to be there. more
Here the issue is of marking up MRP on medicines and medical equipments. This is the sector which is regulated by the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA). It is good that they have been successful in reducing the MRP of certain medicines - essential life saving drugs only. I wonder if NPPA goes into the input cost of the medicines, along with the distribution cost, and then decide the MRP, which as a Regulator they are within their powers to act. The principles of Free Market Economy must not apply to the health sector goods in order to keep the costs to consumers to the minimum, and, also to check the cascading effect caused by the use of the cash memos in reimbursement by the government or the insurance companies. I hope the Department of Consumer Affairs, GoI, takes care of it and advocates with the Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilisers to influence the NPPA in consumers' interests. more
I agree with Gopalakrishnan A S. Medicines prescribed by doctors for diabetic and sugar patients, it is exorbitant to buy poor and middle class people. As medicines for chronic disease and common disease like sugar and diabetic, the cost of MRP medicine may reduced. Moreover, doctors may be instructed to write alternate genetic medicine for patients who can not afford such costly medicine. more
It is good that MRP is written.Good beginning at least. After sometime the real MRP may be available. On line sellers of medicine are giving 20% discount and door delivery too. Generic medicines are sold at 80% discount on MRP. when 80% discount is given to every one, why to write MRP which is 400 times more than the actual sale price. But in devices it is good development. more
