Mosquito Coil Standards should be mandatory
A large number of lower middle class Indians still use mosquito coils in their bedrooms and houses and these are very very bad for health. See attached.

Dear Sujata, Thanks for your email. BIS being the National Standards Body of India develops Indian Standards which are voluntary. However, Central Government in the interest of public health and safety can decide to make compliance to Indian Standards mandatory in identified fields. You can see the list of products which are currently under mandatory BIS certification/compulsory BIS registration scheme at https://bis.gov.in/?page_id=1695. Regarding mosquito coils, I would like to inform you that Pesticides Sectional Committee, FAD 1 of BIS has developed a standard IS 13438 'Allethrin - Mosquito Coils - Specification' which prescribes the requirements and the methods of sampling and test for mosquito coils containing allethrin. where do you get neem oil and camphor oil.I have seen camphor which we use at home during puja but where do you get camphor oil. more

If i use coil for 3 days or more, i suffered with throat infection. Now a days i am using mosquito net when ever possible. more

Mosquito nets are best preventives from mosquitoes (as also from other insects). Widely used by armed forces, para-military forests, etc. who have to spend days/ months/ years etc. in terrains which are breeding grounds for varieties of flying as also crawling insects. Mosquito coils, repellant sprays/ evaporators, etc. should be used only as exceptions in emergencies). more

Use Neem Oil Mixed equally with camphor oil in the same electronic mosquito repellent bottle . It is eco friendly and non-toxic . more
