The smart meters for electricity are a new trend since last 5 years in organised societies and colonies. However these meters share the data of consumption with the company managing the service and in many cases the company share with its outsourced partners.
As a result, data of accounts
holders and their consumption data can be used to sell them services. In addition if someone hacks into such unsecured networks, it can disrupt supplies. Remember what happened with aiims few months back when it took them 5-6 days to restore their servers.
