Motor Insurance

Today, motor insurance premiums are based on value of the vehicle and engine size. I feel that other factors should also be taken into account. Yes, I agree with Mr. Hari. Motor insurance must be linked besides the size of engine and the value with the track record of the driver in terms of rash driving, accidents, traffic violations, life of the vehicle, polluting level etc. Vehicle registration must be linked with the department of insurance, police, pollution control etc to track all these factors and to finally arrive the insurance premium. more
I am not happy with the working with the working with the working of the Consumer Affairs Ministry. At least this time, a dynamic person should have been assigned the Ministry. samsrirao@rediff.com more
Presently, the drivers with poor driving record cannot be tracked as they get DLs from different States easily. The Insurance company do not know the names/age of the drivers. Quite often under age children drive the same and the vehicle owners manage to produce the DL of adults in courts. Anyway, NCB should be made attractive to encourage safe driving. more
I also agree with Mr Hari in that other factors like age, history, condition of the car must be taken into account for fixing the premium. more
What's the value of a new car purchased 10 years ago? Alto car purchased for about 3 lakhs is less than 1 lakh despite being in best of its running capacity along with the AC and it's self driven for less than 5000km during 10 years Insurance premiums are charged @ original value despite no claims asked for any accidents Why do we have to pay according to the rule book made to favour insurance company and it's agents ? more
