The rates are decided with far more study , Such taking blind poll will not help, now Gold is having 1.5% GST ask in a saperte poll that how many are ready to pay GST on Gold at 5% or 18%. none will agree. Giving Slogans is very easy but practically its not so. more
There should be 3 rates: 0%, 5% and 12% more
And with the above services being personal functions, input tax credit is not availed. So the consumer or customer loses. more
The services for GST rates also need to be looked into. For example: Fees to purohits for religious functions, catering fees for religious events etc. Most of them blackmail consumers by saying that pay in cash, otherwise we will charge GST @18% which it too high. Whether they pay the GST to the government is doubtful. Slabs of 0% 50,000, 3% for 50000 to 1L and 18% above would be helpful. Also a 18% GST for basic lodging should be reduced or avoided. A hotel with just ac rooms and no other facilities, is 18% GST justified. Ultimately it is the consumer who gets burdened with the GST. So, probably 3 slabs for GST - 0%, 3% (or 5%) and 18% would be reasonable. more
I think max there can be 3 GST rates only, like 0%, 5%, 10% and 20% with selected basic n essential food items for exemption, 5% and 10% for poor and middle class, and 20% for rich class items. Rounding off can be minimised with these rates n easy to verify for the consumers/tax payers. more
