MRP enforcement in Medical Devices

Ok so I as a medical practitioner have been reading your posts and thinking how can MRP officials enforce the compliance to MRP on medical devices esp by hospitals.

Here is a proposal - MRP Directorate must write to all insurance companies advising them of the new rule where all medical products have to have MRP and it turn asking them to amend their terms and conditions for reimbursement such that they specifically state that if a hospital charges above MRP for any medical device, claims for that procedure will not be followed and hospital in exceptional cases, must be required to produce the package for the insurance companies.

This will help in instiutionalising the rule made by Consumer Affairs. Some initial claim processing delays may be there but at end consumer will greatly benefit. more

Very good. Hope it will give result. more
Will not this encourage the hospital authorities to force the concerned patients or their relatives to make the shortfalls good from their own resources? In no way the hospital authorities will prepare to compromise with their charges unless & until they are forced to do this under suitable laws. more
Yes It is a very good suggestion. more
Dear Vikram ji, It is a very good proposal and will appropriately address if there is a Medical Insurance. I would also like to see the compliance by Administration of all hospitals or anyone extending medical services to the people in this respect. I would suggest a penalty of Rs.100,000 (Rupees one lakh) and one week in jail to the Administrative Incharge responsible for such deed when reported by a patient or his relatives with appropriate proof without any further investigation. In case of foul play by patient or anyone the penalty to that individual should be double of that what medical service provider was liable to. more
This will further strengthen the nexus between hospitals and vendors. Most devices and medicines are sold at MRPs with production cost in decimals or even worse. If airport shops can sell 500 mL water at MRP 40-60 rupees, how on the earth we can ensure any kind of ethical pricing? more
