Every year - same sob story. Nothing has changed since the floods of July 2005 (and even before that). We are an insensitive society. We only talk and crib but are not serious about taking any proactive action or grilling the authorities who are responsible to take care. We will keep paying taxes and charges for shoddy services and happily continue our rant while politicians and administrators make money on the side and scoot to developed countries with their families to enjoy better air, water and life. more

It is unfortunate that Mumbai having BMC with 50000 crore budget is not taking steps to harvest rain water a very precious life sustaining resource. Mumbai is blessed to have more than 2000 mm of rain every year ad precious rain water is pumped in to sea by BMC. Flooding of low lying areas can be prevented by constructing under ground tanks to store rain water. BMC should make it compulsory for all buildings to install Rain Water Harvesting system. It is very simple. All you have to do is to dig a Bore Well and diect the rain water to it. Even Railways can use this method to prevent flooding of tracks which disrupts the essential service of Local Trains. more
