Municipal Engagement for Swachh Bharat

My brother in law is working for an NGO that is helping 8-10 municipalities in north India. His feedback is many municipal officials are least interested in swachh bharat and some of them are their because of their political supporters assigned collection targets.

Swachh Bharat will not work like this. Swachh Citizen advisory boards must be formed with 3-4 eminent citizens in each major city/municipal area. The top leadership should not have any strings attached and have heavy monitoring by center as well as the citizen advisory board.

It has been 2 years since PM launched this mission. The urban and rural development ministries need to not focus on individual cleanliness drives and posing for pictures but on systemic reform where junta is partners.

Hope ministers of these depts are getting my message and will act. more

Unless the Central Ministry of Urban Development has direct control over the local bodies like metropolitan and municipal corporations etc Swach Bharat may not be successfully implemented. These bodies are to be cleansed first where there should not also be vested interests. more
Yes, Mr.Vikram Gupta is right. There should be open display that how much Govt has collected towards Swatch Cess and how much spent and where ? more
Yes, Much more efforts are needed in Regulatory form and executing authorities, as at present speed and strategy we can conclude that we will not reach any where. more
"Swachch Bharat" can never be a success until and unless it flows top down. The citizens are being told to keep the areas clean. I believe most of the educated people and from well to do families will never throw trash on the roads or so. Kids are always taught in schools to keep surroundings clean. Excuse me, but how will this all happen until and unless the municipality, the higher authorise, the ministers also pitch in simultaneously?? The work of the Prime Minister is at the macro level (to find out ways for proper ways of mass waste disposal or forming waste dump yards). The responsibility of the Municipal Corporation is to provide lots of garbage bins at all possible locations to facilitate citizens and to also ensure timely and regular pick up of this garbage. The work of the concerned ministers is to see that everything is running smoothly and that there are no loopholes anywhere. Now as citizens, if we see trash cans at convenient locations at public places, I think nobody would have issues using them. For the few who still will not abide by, I think strict challan system should be there if anybody is caught littering on the roads. Once it is imbibed into all of us and once everybody understands his respective responsibility, it will become a habit and the problem will be solved. more
