MY DEAR FRIENDS , HOW WILL YOU FEEL WHEN YOU GET THIS MESSAGE ,

CHOICE OF AT LEAST ONE BERTH NOT MET ,PARTICULARLY AFTER THE AMOUNT IS DEBITED FROM YOUR ACCOUNT .

This happened just now ,when I was booking my tickets back from Tituccchirapally for the 16th Novemebr . Should this not have been flashed before debitting , so that I could have opted for another train .

Now I am forced to cancel this ticket which will cost me Rs.180/ If I book another ticket and I opt for book only if atleast one lower berh given ; and if it repeats again , I will land up paying another cancellation charges .

IS THIS THE ONLY WAY TO RAISE REVENUE FOR RAILWAYS ?WHAT SORT OF CUNNING STRATEGY IS THIS ?

I am helpless as many other rail pasengers / Customers . more

Why can't a PIL be filed for restrictive trade practice, had booked a ticket costing 240/- of ac cc, had to cancel since immediately realized that date was wrong, railways deducted 180/- rupees towards the same that is 75%+ of the cost of ticket, rules say minimum of 180/- will be deducted, it's should be amended as a % of cost of ticket not exceeding the amounts they want to charge. more
We faced a similar problem-..We booked tickets from the booking counter exactly four months in advance and allotted upper berths to senior citizens and when I lodged a complaint I received a reply "system - generated allotment " which can not be corrected and you manage with your co- passengers. It was 17th October, by Rajdhani Ahmadabad New Delhi Express. To our utter surprise lots of seats went vacant and few LB were occupied by youngsters .Must thank TC who was kind enough to adjust us without any extra payment which to our experience is next to impossible. This is a sorry state of affairs of our railways. Since the railways didn't comply with the directives of the applicant, they should not charge any cancellation fee upon cancellation of the said ticket(s). However, there is no such facility available in the online booking menu, which leaves with only one option of cancellation without asking for the reasons therefor. I would suggest to write back to the railways explaining the situation with a request to forego their cancellation charges as the reservation was done against your mandate. more
Sir, they havent chareged any cancellation fee while refunding .

But created a flutter as they deducted the money first ,then they flashed

the news saying that your opted berth not met . more
It appears from your screenshot that you had given that option but ignored in booking system just by informing that it was not met. In that case ticket shouldn't have been booked otherwise what's the meaning of such option. Railway has become one of the most corrupt organisation openly looting people. Such open nexus with agents helping them even by unnecessarily modifying the earlier good working booking site is clear as daylight. Actually in a monopoly state they are least bothered what the common man says. more
Ms. Hina Manerikar,

It's really socking to see your post and surprised why you are here in this local circle. If you compare everything of present world with that of 50 years back (just because you are 70 years old) and get astonished how things are improving then please be at your present circle and don't enter into this Local circle, which is established to point out for improvement from what's available in present days and not for comparing with that of 50 years back and clap.

While I do agree that Indian Railways handle heavy traffic, please appreciate that's applicable for every department in India. Then in your opinion we shouldn't criticize any wrongdoings and corrupt practices.

It's really funny to see someone is judged based on his/her age (as asked by you and you are in your Seventies so you know everything). For your kind information I am 59 years old Engineer, and come across the transformation from old days technical hand-notes to modern computerized world in my career of 35 years (still going on). So do you think I need your unnecessary interference (god knows what's your intention) supporting what's wrong/corrupt is happening, just because it's better than old days- RIDICULOUS!!.

I have visited about 18 countries during my career (not with political Public money but by my Employer) including the most populated China and seen how the world has improved in last 2 decades, while in India Railways still consider a train running @ 50 KM/Hour (theoretical) as Super-fast and charge extra for that (Oh yes - 50 years back speed was 40 km/hour so be happy). Please spread your access a little wider out of Politics / etc., etc., and then comment please or most preferably refrain from commenting in local circle just to give a politically motivated comment that everything what's happening now!!! is excellent.

I have worked with few Ex-Railway officials in my career and shocked to know how corrupt that organisation is and there are people who even take bribe from their own colleague (of other department) to clear their tour bill / salary arrears etc.

Do you think we are there only to criticize- NO. There were hundreds of suggestions everyday in local circle but who bothers? Criticism is still the best way to highlight wrongdoings/ shortcomings and anybody interested can take corrective measure based on criticism, they don't need detail project report to understand the corrective measures, if interested.

Thanks,

Thanks, more
Mr. Shibdas Mallick, I think you are being very unfair to the railways. I don't know how old you are, but we in the age of seventies remember how difficult it was to book a ticket and how many hours we spent standing in queues. If you consider that ours is the largest railway system and they are doing a fairly good job and more important they are open to feedback and are constantly trying to improve. I wonder even if any other country can manage such heavy traffic the way we are doing. I am not trying to defend their deficiencies, but we should give credit where it is due. Instead of being just critical suggest corrections and solutions so that they can improve their functioning. more
MR. MALLICK , I GET THIS FLASHED ON THE SCREEN SOON AFTER THE

MONEY IS DEDUCTED .

I AM REALLY SURPRISED TO NOTE THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE TO SUPPORT

THIS PROCEDURE , INSTEAD OF POINTING OUT THE WRONG METHOD

ADOPTED BY IRCTC OF DEDUCTING THE MONEY FIRST , THEN SAYING WE

ARE NOT ABLE TO BOOK YOUR TICKET . more
Intimation of 'ticket reservation not confirmed/cancelled' just before 4hrs is not feasible with the present scenario of technical problems such as heavy traffic in internet/transmission towers, poor performance of established communication system, Rly staff being sluggish, careless service, not afraid of disciplinary action by superiors, union interference, poor trained staff, fresh staff being slow , timely unexpected events etc.. Pl excuse me if I support the faulty action. I personally feel that sincerity is weakened by so many factors. The staff should realize the sufferings met due to improper/delayed message. So far I did not encounter such sufferings. If it happens one in thousand ,may be ignored. Outsourcing or handing over to private enterprise is not the solution, absolutely. Upgrading the system to match the present need is lacking, because the network system software is upgraded by soft ware giants at Himalayan cost frequently. It is possible that data entry software staffs are not adequately qualified / or outsourced to an ill equipped contractor. Well, tough time ahead to manage such situation. It is a complex area. more
What exactly you wanted to say Mr. LAKSHMANAN RAMACHANDRAN and how it is related to Mr.Daniel's post?

As a reply please provide only related messages or post it as a separate message, not as a reply. more
