None of the fore going comments do leave us anywhere and are unable to clear the intricacy of GST. Every one is talking about MRP & GST forgetting that the erstwhile MRPs included all kind of taxes existed during pre-GST regime and whether GST should be charged over & above the earlier MRPs already printed on the products. If yes, this will result in double taxation, which is not and can not be correct. Hence, what is the right procedure for charging GST should have been the point of our discussion! In the last week of June,17 and in the beginning of July,17 it was clarified by the government that the revised MRPs after adding GST less earlier tax component should supersede the existing MRPs (may be less or more of the existing MRPs due to change in tax rates) leaving them undisturbed & legible so that no traders could dupe their customers by charging GST without reducing the earlier tax components. In my opinion, this notification is quite clear to read the message in between the lines. As far as discounted price is concerned, we should not forget that no traders can give discounts from their pockets and all discounts are a portion of their margins on a specific item. It means the discounted price (in any manner) also includes the entire tax component due to the government on any product and GST should be arrived at only on the net price billed after deducting the earlier tax component already added therein. more  

It has been observed that even after one month of GST implementation,shopkeepers have not reduced rate i.e.tax component which was charged earlier and over and above they are charging GST. Yesterday I have bought grosseries and toiletries for Rs 6000/- approx and I was charged GST of Rs 1200/-appr.This works out to be appr 18%.Which we feel is very high. I think GST issue is in total mess.Govt must intervene and take corrective action. more
