Need a suggestion

Need a suggestion, from my dear friends,
I am living in Singapore. My son's friend while leaving for US gave me a 40 inch Soni TV just as a gift. This is about 5 to 6 years old. I want to bring it to India in next November. There are no documents. I have nothing else to declare for excise or custom duty.
Am I likely to face any problem with the customs in India, New Delhi airport?
Please enlighten. more

If what u r claiming is correct , seemingly acceptable and true the customs may accept the value if the duty is value based. Otherwise no point in bringing old tv to india. more

The best idea is to sell the your old tv in your current country and buy a new tv in India. Here in India tv cost is significantly low now comparing 4 and 5 years ago. Besides you will get latest techonology . more

TV and Laptops are not part of baggage allowance. It will be treated separately. more

Since it is an old TV, I do not think that there will be a problem. It's valuation will be within your exemption limit. Moreover if you are an NRI it is a case of transfer of residence. You can bring many more things. Pl ascertain actual position from our embassy. G P Sangal more
