Need to upgrade the Retiring Room Facilities

While Indian Railways deserve credit for permitting online booking for retiring rooms and now for provision to book Retiring Rooms on hourly basis still the facilities presently being made available in these Retiring Rooms needs immediate upgrade in keeping with the present times and trends. The following may be considered in each retiring room:-
1. Provision of Filtered drinking water with glasses.
2. Since most Retiring Rooms are located upstairs the need for providing a lift or escalator or at-least a ramp for old and needy cannot be over-emphasised.
3.Provision a kettle with tea/coffee making kit in each room will not be asking for too much - on demand and on reasonable payment.
4.The Station Refreshment Room should be made responsible for catering for the necessary basic catering needs like providing tea/coffee/ milk in flasks or light refreshments for occupants of the Retiring Rooms even at an extra Service Charge.Alternatively near by restaurants may be assigned room service contracts to meet these requirements.
5.Provision of a clean towel and a new bath soap is also a must in each Retiring Room.
6. Further adequate Toilet Kits may be kept available with the Retiring Room staff/matron for use by the occupants on need basis on payment.
7.A bell in each room for the attendant who should be entrusted with meeting all legitimate needs of the occupants like getting mineral water milk tea/coffee and for other minor errands.

I am sure Railway Authorities will look in to the above suggestions pragmatically which will go a long way in making the stay in Railway Retiring Rooms comfortable and memorable. more

Retiring rooms in railways stations are of several types. In some stations this room is kept locked and will be opened only when Railway staff want to relax, or take bath or sleep. In some Stations, the Retiring rooms though kept open, there are no person to monitor and hence, persons who are not passengers, come inside and sleep in the room or take bath, or spread all the area as their own not allowing other genuine passengers to stay there. In many of the Retiring rooms, the cleanliness is far from satisfactory and the furniture are found broken and injuring, the floor is full of garbages and food leftovers, children urine or water washed on the floor. There are none to monitor the retiring rooms more
This is the point to be paid attention. more
Anil Sharma's suggestions are very good and implementable. more
proposals are very much required. to be taken up in right spirit. more
very useful suggestion if implemented will be useful for sr citizens more
Mr.Anil Sharma's suggestions good and are available now in many small lodges. As providing attendant (call-boy), refreshments, maintaining cleanliness, water fittings, AC units etc may be costly for Railways, they can outsource maintenance these functions. If done diligently and transparently, it will be win-win situation for all stakeholders. Recent announcement about hourly charges for Retiring room is a right step and it will benefit large number of transit passengers. more
