Needs justification for railway running in loss?

it is the railway authorities to maintain the profitability of the service, that is why they are being paid for. but they are running the service unethically to get profit and that too is not achieved. the refund rules should be simple. if the passenger is not traveled, just return the amount (less 10 rs.as clerical charge), that is professional ethics. in on an average,
if 150 wait listed tickets per journey and 120 as clerical charge is then it is Rs.18000
720 Sleeper tickets * 350 Rs=252000
240 Three tier AC * 900 Rs = 216000
120 Two tier AC * 2000 Rs = 240000
1000 Unreserved tickets * 60 Rs = 60000
total Rs.= 786000
yes, Seven lakhs eighty six thousands rupees in one journey.

for single journey 2 engine driver, 2 guard,4 TTR, 4 rpf staff,10 attendants,10 cleaners (and other staff at various stations 100 nos), a total of 132 staff is needed for one journey. if average per day salary of 500 is charged (eventhough more number of trains are serviced by these staff in one day), Rs.66000 is deducted.

staff salary rs=66000
current charge = 1lakh
water charges =10000
track Coach maintenance = 2 Lakhs
a total of rs.376000 is expenses per journey.
revenue is 786000-376000= so profit is 410000 per journey. proit
if 2 journeys per day = 410000*2 =rs.820000 per day profit
so in a year 365*820000= 29 crore 93 laks per train profit in a year.
please note that this profit is after deducting all expenses. can the railway authorities justify still they are running in loss? more

You have not consider deoreciation charges as Av. Engine as well as cotches life is not more than 15 years. with very high purchase cost. 2ndly Driver CTC with OT is approx 1 lac pm . more  
Start with good HR practices, hold employees and management accountable. Hire people based merit and not on a class. Employee job training and continual skill assessment is very important. I also think there is a lot of free loading( theft) if going on. I am sure no one is watching the supplies of food products or things like towels blankets etc. If people are taking those items we need to charge a fee included in the ticket for those sort of supplies. All kinds of free passes must be stopped. All of them may buy tickets and claim reimbursement from the concerned department. more  
This type of public loot needs to be stopped. more  
Railway is a vast organisation, running in british style, by Indian corrupt and inefficient Officials. Break even point could not be reached so far, except by manipulation by Mr. Lalu Yadav. No government is prepared to touch the ticket price, for the fear of public warth. more
