NEET controversy
the bill for withdrawing NEET was unanimously passed in the state assembly.
under normal circumstances,it is to be assumed that the elected representatives should know better what is good for the state, more than the governor.however the present circumstances under which the governors function, purely at the behest of the central govt.,is a wee bit different.
nevertheless,if the governor came to the conclusion that the withdrawal of NEET is not in the interest of the students in tamilnadu, then he should submit adequate proof for having arrived at this conclusion.this is the proper approach in a truly democratic nation, which is laid down in our constitution and the governor should bear allegiance to the constitution of india.otherwise, there should be a RTI to ascertain this.
the reason for this suggestion is that,if there has been sufficient representation from the citizens of tamilnadu to the governor not to accept the recommendation of the government of tamilnadu, based on which he has made his conclusions.making this documentation public will set at rest any speculation regarding the decision making process.
further it would enlighten the state politicians and they may then bury the issue politically and galvanise themselves into action to upgrade the knowledge and skills of the government school students to compete in the NEET exams with confidence.
otherwise the NEET debate will continue to remain political. more
