New Performance System for Railway Officials

Mid last year, it was shared with us via some of the circle whitepapers that senior Railway officials should have better performance measurements and KRAs. Subsequently it was announced in the Railway Budget 2016 that this system will be improved.

Ministry of Railways has recently implemented KRAs for all senior railway officials (attached key metrics). This is a first of its kind system for the Indian Railways, in which officials will be held accountable on measurable parameters (Key Result Areas or KRAs). The performance agreements are currently being signed.

The agreements have key performance indicators and annual targets for senior railway officials. From weightage for non-fare revenue, new traffic streams added to the freight loading and passenger traffic from the managers’ zone, the 100 marks system has a total of 18 stringent parameters on the basis of which the performance of the senior officials will be decided.

If you have additional inputs on how Railway can improve human resource productivity and performance at other levels, do share your inputs. more

This is also one of the best step taken by Indian Railway for the up-gradation and growth of railways. Performance measurement will definitely improve the entire system. more
The Civil services exam is a bit of a lottery. There is an element of luck, say what you will.I would say that everyone appearing for and especially making it to any of the civil services are roughly at par.I wonder how many of you are aware that till some time ago at least Jamalpur engineers, the specialist Railways engineering organisation, was one of the most prestigious and sought-after jobs for engineers,i Performance indicators are a good idea though the senior officers I think work very hard.As do most of the railway officers of any rank ,engine drivers, station masters ,guards, etc or else the behemoth that the Indian Railways is could not possibly run. There are areas where slackness is evident and those are in the customer servicing areas.THERE the Railways is sorely lacking or extremely lacklustre. And considering that the Railways are running the hugest public service in the country, customer service in any area cannot be ignored more
