No country for children of well to do people

The Union Cabinet on Monday approved amendments to allow 10% reservation for economically weak people from the general category castes in jobs and education.

The reservation will apply to those earning Rs 8 lakh or less annually and owning up to five acres of land.

The government will reportedly move a Constitution amendment bill in the Lok Sabha to this effect on Tuesday, which is the last day of the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament. This will require amendments to Articles 15 and 16 of the Constitution.

Article 15 of the Constitution allows the state to make special provisions only for the “socially and educationally backward classes or for the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes”. Article 16 allows the state to make such provisions for backward classes in public employment to improve representation. more

It is a gimmick; keeping election in mind and politically oriented. more
The root cause of social disparity is huge population of our country. If the standard of living of all citizens is to be improved, the Govt. must invest on birth control measures. All subsidies/aids should be restricted to families adopting 1 or 2 children norm. The problem of unemployment will continue to go unabated till the time we reduce the population to 75 crore. No Central or State Govt. can increase employment as their spent on salaries/pensions/privileges of existing employees is upto 85% of the budget. As such very little amount is left for other social and developmental activities. Even the Army is facing drought of weapons as major part of budget is spent on pensions (Rs.95000 crore on pensions and Rs.82,000 cr. on salaries, leaving just about Rs.25 cr. for buying weapons for Navy/Air Force/Army. Many MLAs are getting monthly pensions ranging from Rs.2.50 lac to 4 lac what to talk about their salaries, perks and privileges. The situation has reached alarming proposition and need serious thought to curtail cost of governance by 30% and spare sufficient funds for developmental and productive works. more

No doubt reservation is bad measure for inequality prevailing in society. But with present state of our country, no political party can win election with agenda to remove reservations. Forget about it at present , Congress won MP & Rajisthan, promising loan waver where as loan waver advantage only for less than 2%population but it created different atmosphere. Making people dishonest and beggar. more
