It looks like nrega projects are not strictly administered by the Govt(Earlier Govt). As many can see huge irregularities in funds in villages. Govt should start taking necessary measures to put in place transparent systems. If necessary it can even think of abolishing the nrega itself. more
The main reason NREGA has failed in many parts of the country, or worse, turned into money siphoning machines by local political parties in power is because the funds are disbursed and work is allotted by local people's representatives and not officers directly accountable to the Centre from where the money (tax payer's money i.e.) comes. District magistrates and similar offices should be responsible for allocation, monitoring and funds utilisation for NREGA projects along with the state Accountant General. That will also give the babus and clerks in these offices some work to justify their assured salary and post retirement benefits. more
In kerala the system is managed well and were working satisfactorily for about2 years, thereafter, the labours were not getting wages for workdone, panchayat orblock office showing their in ability due to fund not available from central government or state government timely, after they toldthat it is linked through adhaar and creditwill be available at members bank account, nothing has been happened. more
