NRI - tax payers - how to get a residence proof
I retired from Chandigarh in 2010 and now working in Singapore. Everytime I enter India via the airport at Trichy( my home town) ,the courteous Immigration officer will ask me residence proof, which irritates me. It takes at least 1 month of running around and bribe to get a ration card in my home town and another month for changing the address is passport. Indian documentation depends so heavily on address proofs and we cannot get our aadhar card if we are in a foreign country. I pay around 4lacs Rs Income tax every year and get humiliated by Mother India. Mother India politicians are so stupid that they only fight in parliamentary debates and they are hardly worried about other issues. I think this matter of National ID should be very clearly sorted out and National ID ( AAdhar card ) should have tax ( pAN No ) and the genuine tax payer should be free of harrassment at the ports.. more

The point I am making is that we need to make the system better by taking action. I am not sure how many if you complained to the right authority after facing an issue and how many of you followed it up. Pls visit this site and complain and follow it up. You will be heard. http://www.indianairports.com/php/showNews.php?newsid=59&linkid=47 Alternatively once you have bad exp, you can request to meet senior official then and there, they will hear you. Its not about Trichy or Chennai or Delhi...its about particular immigration office, who might be unprofessional. I am sorry to say that we Indians have this tendency to link thinks to 'region' and 'religion'. Knowingly or unknowingly. Lets more

Thank you Mr Roy. Please travel via Trichy .Delhi , Mumbai are different, even chennai is funny. If you had good experience , I am very happy. But Indian immigration is the first encounter point for a tourist and needs to be professional. It also needs to treat Indian citizens with dignity. more

This seems to be a unique case of Trichy airport and being educated and aware people, you should complain to right authorities and take judicial route if needed. You can complain even on PMO site. Rather than criticizing politician, we can do a lot, as there is independent judiciary. There needs to be a will for a positive change. I have traveled to 17 countries in past 4 years and I never had bad exp with Indian immigration. No1 needs to carry address proof. Passport, Visa are the only requirement for Indian citizens at indian immigration. more

Dear Brij Gupta Sir, You must have travelled to many countries and faced friendly immigration officials. Even Burma, Thailand , indonesia are well dressed and well behaved. Only USA officials appear rude. Indian officials are rude to their own countrymen. more
