Objectionable comments on the respected andal

A cinema lyricist in Tamil Nadu has spoken desperagingly about Andal, one of the greatest Tamil savants, who has contributed to the cause of Tamil by writing inspiring hymns.

The lyricist who claims that he is a champion of Tamil cause said that he made his remarks critical of Andal as part of his observations on a literature .

Naturally, Hindus felt hurt that such careless and irresponsible observations have been made and are protesting. However, a group of Tamil writers now are supporting the Tamil lyricist and defending his remarks against the Tamil savant, stating that it is part of genuine literary criticism that one is entitled to make.

They do not understand that liberty is not a personal affair and it is a social contract. While one has the liberty to air his views , certainly he does not have the liberty to ridicule the faith of other people in the society directly or indirectly.

What one cannot miss is the fact that some people in Tamil Nadu regularly make adverse remarks about the beliefs of Hindus and one even went to the extent of ridiculing that in which engineering college Lord Rama studied.

One wonders whether such adverse remarks will be made against the beliefs of any other religion by these people.
Should public utterances in Tamil Nadu descend to such low level which is now a cause for concern, as those who demand casteless society make casteist remarks to further their fortunes.

Andal in South and Meerabai in North were two most prominent women in Bhakti movement. They contributed to the Indian literature thro their Bhakti & Hindu devotional writings. They also contributed to Hindu religion & spirituality. Now it is becoming fashion to some people to do post mortem of such works & comments to establish their so called intellectualism. Perhaps we need to evolve a system for such comments, freedom of speech & motivated remarks. more
Why not leave this at this stage. This protests made him very big and he became more popular not alone in India. Is it not better to get his apology in writing and leave him. Every one is well aware that he belongs to one of the athiest group. Do we consider the comments of athiests whaatever they say. We believe in god and allow it take care of these evils. more
The tragedy is that the Hindus themselves are not aware of the fundamentals of Hinduism and how great the Sanatan Dharma it enunciates. The truth is that Hinduism is an inclusive religion and if properly understood and propagated it is capable of becoming the Universal Religion and obviate the vicious atmosphere now created in the name of Religions, including by the fringe elements among the protagonists of Hinduism. Unless the Hindus themselves wake up derogatory remarks and trends to demean the Hindu culture and religion will continue. more
First of all I request my friend of other religions that this is nothing to hurt you or against you only our own religion people are making us to react to them only these strong words. Please forgive me . repeat i have to be bit harsh to our own religion people who talk filthy of their religion. All these people want our money and vote hoping that simply we swallow these people word and pay money to their creations or we vote them and make them win . This lyricist who claims that he is a champion of Tamil is a DMK leader Pro, hence this is nothing shocking. But still as a HINDU I have to franchise my responsibility to my religion ( My faith ). All these days WE Hindus are silent on others for making any anti hindu religious comment or even converting people from hindus to other religions . This was only on the consideration that some poor get some money for their need for few days ( not life long) so we were silent considering the poor enlistment ( even it is for one day let them at least be happy for one day that's all) For eg. an old (80+ year) lady flower vendor for us for more than 10 years was getting old age pension till last 2015 flood. After Chennai flood all her documents like pass book ID proof etc etc were drowned and that was the reason for stopping her pension at the age 80 + . I tried for her by approaching Tamilnadu CM cell to help her get her pension restored. but all my efforts did not yield any fruitful result. last month she was wearing a "t" on her neck then i asked her what is this she said her neighbor converted her and promised Rs 500/- every month so though she does not want to change religion govt forced her to change by stopping her old age pension.( i feel proud of this 80+ year grand mother that even at this age she is ready to work and earn and survive) This This lyricist who make money by praising a leader ------ ( especially the DMK and leftist Communists ) has no rate ( not even third rate ) to talk about tamil and tamil culture. Indirectly these so called TAMIL PRO are slowlly killing TAMIL and its CULTURE. All these decades we Hindus were silent on such issues only made these underrate idiots to talk about our religion for simply "vote" to day we silently killed these two Parties in Tamilnady one is gone and the other recently could not even get minimum VOTE to get back their money deposited. Now I dont want to be a silent spectator to these kind of people comments , we have to retaliate and I am sure our retaliation will be Like Missiles I want to shout in public that I am HINDU proudly , allthese days i was feeling this will hurt my friends of other religions though my friends of other religions are not like these underrated lyricist of my own religion . but they are using our submisive nature is afraid of these antisocial elements . hence we Hindus have to Now prrove we also can retaliatie and they cannot withstand . more
Shri Vairamuthu has written an explanation of his comment on Times of India today. It may be worth a read to get his point of view. Apparently it was a quote from an earlier text. L.Kalavathi Retd. Bank Official Chennai, Tamilnadu. 19/01/2018 more
