Oils and Heart

I was surprised to read that Dr. Shetty in Richi's post below says all oils are bad.

Well, one cannot survive without oils in Indian cooking. Can someone please give some details on what's the least bad. Should people switch their oils....It will be helpful. I am as Dr. Vinayak says the one who falls in the double trouble category. more

We should see body as a whole .Its best to have a holistic approach to any problem, and not just st one angle. That is if oils are imp or not.The simple formula is that as we learn how to EARN money, its time now to EARN our health.E-exercise every day.A-positive mental attitute. We talk maximum to ourselves. What are we talking and thinking matters how your physical health will be.Physical.Mental,Emotional ,Social, financial, and spiritual health all is in your own hands.R-adequate rest.N-nutrition.Eat moderate.Hum sab ko pata hota hai ki hamare liye kaya teek hai ,but we have started depending on others for every thing(its become a fad that someone else will tell what should i eat).A must read Making MIracle. We have always lived our lives following these small principles of life and by Gods grace we are 58 and 63 yrs and leading a healthy life with the absence of any life style disease. We should meet once in a month an share with each other to make India healthy. more
dean ornish also advises a zero oil , water based cooking.but this makes food less tasty and less palatable. sunflower and safflower oil are good and switching of oils should be done every 2-3 weeks to be more effective. one can aslo take omega-3 fatty acids , available as seacod capsules to protect against heart disease. more
And his take on this to target those people who use oil religiously. Indian oil cooking is incomplete without frying and making masala rich with oil. If we compare indian food with some other country's cuisine there will be maximum oil in our dishes. In India people feel that till we don't add ggood amount of oil, the dish will not be perfect and this is the thing which we nutritionists are trying to remove from the minds of Indian people more
The purpose of Dr shetty's note on oils is that any oil if you consume in abundance wether it is stated that it contains zero cholesterol, zero saturated fats are bad...one can not omit oil completely but this is just to inform everybody that consume in limited amount. you can choose from canola, olive, rice bran, safflower and flax seed oils.. more
