Omicron and Schools - Way Forward

Many of you participated in our survey last week on the approach that should be utilised to minimise the spread of Omicron variant via schools and below is the survey report:

Omicron and Schools - Way Forward

Your feedback suggests that most are of the opinion that schools should be shut if there are multiple cases in a district or its 25 km vicinity. Currently India has almost 50 districts that fall in this category out of the 736 districts in the country. So your local administrators have this public opinion, do share with them.

Do share any inputs you may have on the subject! more

Polls like these conducted with a very homogeneous sample (affluent/middle class, urban/semi-urban, English-educated persons with access to multiple devices and stable internet) are likely to be very skewed. Simply closing down schools with every scare without proper alternative strategies is going to have a long term effect of the children who are affected by all this. But then who cares? Our government and politicians deal more in slogans and less with facts. Children studying in private schools in urban areas are able to carry on with online learning (even though their learning does suffer somewhat) but govt. school children who have poor access to phones/tablets/internet have suffered badly. Many urban poor children enrolled in private schools are unable to pay their fees due to loss of parents' earnings and have discontinued studies. I am telling this from personal knowledge of such children and my wife and I helped pay the fees of a couple of such children with our limited means. Situation in rural areas must be far worse. more
Alternate {lans must be made toeducate children, if the schools are to be shut now. more
Let's come out with creative ideas to boost the level of covid appropriate behaviour among people which will help majorly to deal with Omicron and will certainly win over the fight against the variant virus and its mutuations. Also to ensure 100% vaccination among eligible adults. more
Experts believe , the third wave should hit us in India by mid jan to feb . Whereby utmost precautions need to be taken , hope we all remember what hit us last time more
What is the plan to shut schools because of Omicron?? more
